My Whovian Proposal

I got engaged! And it went viral! Here's sites that it was featured on! This is crazy!

Ok sooo.... my life was a bit crazy for awhile... My now-fiance, Brad, got tickets to this meet & greet via Wizard World convention circuit. He goes hogwild for Doctor Who celebs. And almost no price is too high for him. Haha! So I knew we were going since Feb.

We both got up and cosplayed as the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, appropriately. For those who don't know, Matt Smith played the 11th Doctor and David Tennant played the 10th Doctor.

He bought extra autograph tickets for me because Brad is very generous that way. I had brought my Tennant and Davison 8x10 I got at NYCC autographed by Peter Davison already. I wanted Tennant to sign this one too. And for Matt Smith, I had the postage stamp for him to sign if I decided to not get an 8x10 at his table. I wasn't sure yet. Little did I know why Brad really got the autograph tickets for me....

We waited on a very long line for the photo ops to begin and go through most people. I noticed Brad was acting weirder than normal... like overly excited than his usual "meeting celebs" self but i shook it off, he paid a lot of money to be here, let him have his day. hehe. We made friends with the people in line behind us. They were really sweet and fun and never done anything like this before... So we talked about all sorts of nerdy things and plugged the Way Station in Brooklyn of course.

Then I recall Brad having his phone up to his face at one point typing something out. I asked him what he was doing, again not normal behavior... You'd think I woulda known by now. Nope! Ha!
Apparently he was writing the people in line behind us, that we became friendly with, to try to videotape what was going to happen. So they knew what was about to go down! Of course when we got up there the con people put a stop to them videotaping anything. But at least we got a few photos out of it.

Ok back to the moment in time... So eventually it's our turn. As usual, we throw our bags on the side table, I get out my sonic screwdriver to pose with it. As per the photos, you can see Tennant is first and then Smith. I walked to Smith first, hugged him as he had his arms wide open for such a thing. (I did not ask him nor expect it...I'm not that kind of fan! lol) And Brad was behind me. So when I turned around to greet Tennant, I look down to see Brad is basically at eye level (not normal! Ha!) and see that he has a box in his hand... Then it all came crashing down on me and I knew what was happening! And that's the first photo in the series... With my mouth wide open not knowing what really was happening or that it *was* happening, etc! My brain was going a mile a minute!

By the way, I love Tennant's curious look of "Oooh I think I know what is about to happen!" and Smith's 5 year old face "Ooh what's happening?", like he's waiting for a cookie to appear or something. haha

I do recall Brad actually saying the words, "Will you marry me?" So I do recall I needed to answer or this is not going to look good at all! Ha! So I answered loudly, "Yes!"Which is probably this photo, right before I said yes...

Then I think that's when this photo was taken, a "hooray, congrats, she-said-yes," photo with Tennant and Smith cheering! There was no time to actually put the ring on while in front of them because photo ops are usually 10 seconds long. I'm happy the photographer took four photos!
Original photo before they signed it.
Signed photo afterwards.
Technically, besides the couple behind us, Tennant and Smith were the first ones to congratulate us. Which is very touching! ^_^

My instagram video shows the photos above and one photo of the ring.

My instagram video here shows the ring and Tardis ring box best.

Tardis ring box with ring on top.
R2D2 ring inside the box.

It says "Travel with me in time and space"

Brad wrote up his version of the story earlier, when it happened. (Life went crazy after this and I didn't have a chance to write this up until now...)

As of now we have no definitive date or plans. We have some things up our sleeves but... spoilers!

Doctor Who's Tom Baker Q&A at RegenerationWho

At the RegenerationWho convention, they pulled off an amazing Skype call wtih special guest Tom Baker for an hour. It was one magical hour. Tom Baker is the sweetest and kindest man with that grandpa quality we all wish we could be around all the time. And he has the most infectious laugh you'll hear and you'll just start giggling anytime he bellows it out. It's adorable! He's adorable!

I did not videotape the entire interview due to contractual agreements between the convention and Tom Baker's associates. But here is a snippet of one of the questions about how it was to wear the scarf all the time, did it get in the way, etc.

I cannot transcribe the entire Q&A either but here are many snippets and quotes from the session. We all wished it lasted longer. He was such a doll to talk to! And imagine him taking his time answering the questions and kind of rambling on, in the best possible way, but when he realizes he's rambling, he immediately, straight-faced and eagerly says, like a child, "Ask me another one!" heehee

-As a child Tom Baker saw his name in lights. "I enjoy being worshipped."

-On becoming the Doctor: he had to keep the news secret for two weeks. It was a great relief to get the job. He didn't have to reach for the part because he, like the Doctor, believes in the impossible and being kind. It was easy being the Doctor because he's been the Doctor forever.

-His thoughts on his costume:
-It was very old student look; with big trousers and the jacket
-The costumers sent all this wool yarn to Pegonia Pope to make a scarf. But no one told her when to stop and she never bothered to ask. So they visited her to see the progress or what she did make and it was 58 feet long! They cut it down of course but it was still so long that he tripped over it a lot while shooting scenes!

-Someone asked "Why Jelly Babies?" To which he simply stated that he just thought it would be funny when faced with a really evil villian, to suddenly just offer some jelly babies to them and see what happens. Haha

-When asked what he thought about the latest incarnation of the Doctor, Peter Capaldi as the twelfth Dcotor, Mr. Baker says he thinks Capaldi's bony face looks like "he comes from...someplace else..." hehe

-Speaking about getting recognized while in public:
-He said he was at a pub with friends and he kept getting interrupted to sign autographs. Here he is still sober and still on his first drink and his friends were already on their fifth pint getting drunk... So he later goes to another bar, more of a hole in the wall type place. And someone comes up to him with a paper and he is tired and still sober but thinks, "Fine.." and the guy is pointing to the paper but not saying much, so he proceeds to sign it and hands it back to the man. The man looks at him and says, "What's this?" Tom: My autograph! Man: What? no! He flips over the paper -- I need directions to here!  Tom had a good laugh over that one.
-Another time he saw a whole school bus of kids and he said they all recognized him and he described it as the bus was going to tip over because they all gathered on the one side of the bus to see him! So they all pile out of the bus and surround him with hugs and adoration. And he loved it!

-He is not interested in those not interested in love.

-He mentioned that he wanted to play the Master and waited by the phone for that call. He lost a lot of weight waiting. Haha

-When he discussed what it was like to come back and do the Big Finish audio, and asking if any other companions would join him now: He said it was nostalgic to bring him back. It was like going back to childhood to when the fans were young so no other companions could come in now that two of the other actresses have passed away.

-When asked about life after Doctor Who, he commented that he may have hung up the scarf but he never stopped being Doctor Who. Nothing he did after Doctor Who was ever as successful.

-On other acting gigs after Doctor Who: he says that he just kept playing the Doctor, It was fun and it was for the fans because he knew any fans that came in, they wanted to see the Doctor, it was for them, not the other actors, which the other actors probably didn't care for. haha But he says if he stopped playing the Doctor, then no one would love and recognize him anymore.

-Discussing watching Doctor Who now:
-He never even watched his scenes when they aired because he doesn't like watching himself. He merely loved working on it and being a part of it. The job fulfilled him so much and he was unhappy when he wasn't working on it. He loved playing that crazy character!

-He discussed other acting jobs and said he will not take on anything that have violent parts. Those parts don't hold any interest him because he "lives in cloud cukoo land". He believes that heroes live and wants to do gentler things. He wants people to be happy. (I love that he made a Lego Movie reference haha)

-Tom Baker says he's full of affection and he loves meeting people and fans. And that being here, as fans at this convention, confirms his approval of him. heehee

-He currently owns five cats and a dog. Two cats are Burmese and three are Siamese. He recites Shakespeare sonnets to his dog whilst on walks in the woods.

-He once wrote a book in 1999 about a very vile boy who gets it in the end. It's still for sale and being published which he's amazed at. He says it sells very well in the Jewish section of Liverpool.

-He says he's a master of self delusion

-He says no one has failed at playing the Doctor and that anyone can play the role. He says that Johnny Depp could have played the role back in the day.

-If he could play any part in Sherlock in the current incarnation, would he and what part?
   -He's played Sherlock twice already
-And he played both Holmes and Moriarty in the same play as the plot was that Moriarty had surgery to look like Holmes so Baker had to play both parts. It was written in such a way that the characters weren't on stage together but the audience would get confused as to which character he was at that moment, Holmes or Moriarty?
-He is very tender towards Watson. And during the show Watson dressed in drag and Baker pretended not to notice.
-He has read all the Sherlock stories though
-But no, he would not want to play it anymore. He wants nothing more to do with the character.

-Appearing on Skype must feel much like appearing on the Tardis view screeen. Baker wants to learn how to use Skype more so that he can Skype all his enemies! Ha!

-Have you beaten K9 at chess?
-No -- But he loved K-9. Though he loved the actor who played K-9 in rehearsals and his voice actor better than the mechanical dog. Especially because that actor would get Baker coffee and such. Ha!
-He had to be on his knees a lot during any two-shots with K-9 because they couldn't fit them both in on screen otherwise. He disliked that part of it a lot.

-He loves special effects work. It challenges him and it's fun. There was a scene where he had to blow up Daleks and when the strings were coming closer and closer together he said "I can't do this! I love the Daleks! If it was the BBC..." haha The journalists were on set that day. One had a field day with that and the headline the next day in the paper was "Tom Baker has a rat and wants to blow up the BBC!" Well then people tweeted back that they would have liked to as well! Ha!

-Any last words of wisdom for fans?
-He laughed heartily at this question and said "Beware old men doling out words of wisdom. The world is run largely by old men and look at the state of it!" Big laughs were had at that.
-He says he has no other words of wisdom though. Just thankful for this opportunity to speak with fans across the pond as he probably won't be able to come over to the states as he gets older.

No, thank you, Mr. Tom Baker! You are awesome, funny, sweet, kind and I can laugh because you have a loveable and infectious laugh! It was a pleasure to have this Skype call with you!

View of the Skype call from my seat
Before the call started Tom Baker put his stuffed bear to the screen and made him peak out of the screen and such. Adorable.

The British Are Coming! To Disney's Epcot UK Shops

According to the Disney Blogs, dreams are coming true! Disney World's EPCOT United Kingdom pavilion has added more Doctor Who merch to the shop and have also added a few shirts for Downton Abbey!!! This is so exciting! The Doctor Who merchandise last I was there in June/July was lacking. They had maybe one or two basic shirts available (men's only btw) of the logo or the "Angels Have the Box". Nothing exciting.

Here's a few sneak peaks at what is coming:

Maggie Smith gets all the best lines. This one isn't the best but it's still good.

Pretty much all of this is new since June/July. The one in the bottom right, was there last visit though.

This is the new 50th Anniversary shirt with all the Doctor's (minus Capaldi)
They've added the Tardis scarf as well.
Yes, the Doctor Who shirts and accessories you can find online nowadays but it's good progress for Disney to aquire the license to sell them. The Downton Abbey items are amazing to find at all these days. Sure it's not a replica dress of Lady Grantham or Lady Mary or jewelery inspired by the show, more of a catchy modern tee instead. But it's definitely good news for Disney!

12th Doctor Reveal!!!!

So according to DoctorWhoTV.com, BBC1 will be announcing the 12th Doctor this weekend Sunday, August 4th at 7pm BBC1.  It will be entitled "Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor".

As per DoctorWhoTV.com:
A deliberate disposable repeat of Celebrity Mastermind is currently listed in the timeslot.
The show is going to be filmed in front of a live studio audience with Zoe Ball unveiling the next Doctor. The show will also feature interviews with past Doctors and companions.
Interestingly, this week saw Peter Capaldi inexplicably leap to the top of the bookies lists. Is this because he’s won the role? We’ll find out soon enough.
The BBC are expected to officially confirm the programme at midnight.
Wahoo!! Now how do we in the States or other countries get to see this too?? Squee!

My Adventures With the Doctor

Sunday was a busy day for me. I went into Jersey early for a bridal shower. Wonderful time there. That's for another post perhaps though. Came back into the city late because the train was late.
I was two blocks from home when I got a text saying Matt Smith was at the Way Station bar in Brooklyn. What? So I race home the two blocks change clothes from my inappropriate sundress that I foolishly wore in this cold rainy day, to comfy jeans and Doctor Who shirt.
I race back out the door, not before grabbing a couple DW magazines and a Sharpie just in case.
As I leave, i text a couple friends who I know would want to know about this. Unfortunately one is in the middle of studying for finals and the other could care less about Doctor Who, but put on pants anyway to come make sure I didn't molest Matt Smith. (Tho let's be honest, he's not the one I'd "molest"... <cough> Tennant... <cough>)
This same friend also tells me she checked the Way Station Facebook page and tells me Stephen Moffat is there too. Whoa! (curse words might have been spewed)
So I basically run as fast as I can to the train and hope for a miracle that trains get there quickly, including the transfer i need to take once in Brooklyn.
Get into Brooklyn, run down the ten blocks to get there. People are giving me hope as I run, via text messages telling me based on crowds they are both probably still there. Hooray!
I make it there sweaty and out of breath. Big madhouse.
Matt is taking pics as he is mobbed and trying to make his way back to where Moffat was sitting. Then is trying to leave the madness and us still being gracious enough to take pics with people as he's exiting.
I make my way outside hoping to catch him.
Eventually I do. I beg to take a picture with him and throw my camera to the closest random stranger. Matt smiles graciously and patiently. And as soon he's done with me, he throws his hoodie up and bolts the area.

Now Moffat. He's still inside signing but finishing up and honestly there's no way i can back through the crowd inside the bar. So I decide to wait outside. In the meantime I found my friend who says I "molested" Matt since she saw him running for his life (how appropriate, Doctor).
So I patiently wait for Moffat to come out. Of course he's not as mobbed because people have been able to get to him inside as well as the fact that he's not Matt Smith in these people's eyes. But he is followed out but in a more civilized manner.
So I wait for my chance. Someone comes up to shake his hand and say thank you. And that's my in. I do the same and kindly ask  for a photo.
Moffat says he feels like a giant for once next to my petite 5 foot frame and also that he's the ugly one. Funny man. He was very kind.

Side note, Moffat's wife was there as well. At the moment if posting I don't recall her name but apparently she of Sherlock fame (no surprise there) but I didn't know her so I didn't want to just take a random pic with her.

And this is the video someone took at the Way Station of Moffat's speech.

So that was my brief but amazing adventure with the Doctor. I hope there are more adventures with him to come. I'll be intently listening for that worp worp sound again.
